True forgiveness means letting go of resentment and wishing good for those who have hurt you. If you still hope for bad things to happen to them, you haven’t truly forgiven.
God created the physical world to reflect spiritual truths. Just like a physical wound needs to be cleaned to heal, spiritual wounds caused by hurt must be cleansed through forgiveness. Holding on to bitterness is like letting a wound fester—it prevents healing and can lead to deeper harm.
Only when we can sincerely bless those who’ve hurt us does true healing begin. That’s why Jesus Christ taught that we must forgive others if we want to be forgiven. The Lord’s Prayer also reflects this truth, asking for our forgiveness as we forgive those who’ve wronged us.
