True forgiveness is more than a feeling—it is a deliberate choice to release resentment and extend grace toward those who have hurt us. When we still hope for harm to come to someone, it reveals that our hearts have not fully embraced forgiveness.
God designed the physical world to mirror deeper spiritual truths. Just as a physical wound must be cleaned in order to heal, the spiritual wounds created by offense or betrayal also require cleansing. That cleansing comes through forgiveness. Holding on to bitterness is like allowing a wound to fester—it blocks healing, fuels emotional pain, and can lead to even greater spiritual harm.
Real healing begins only when we can sincerely bless and pray for those who have wronged us. This is why Jesus Christ emphasized the importance of forgiving others if we desire to receive God’s forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer echoes this same principle, asking God to forgive us just as we forgive those who have sinned against us.
Embracing forgiveness opens the door to freedom, spiritual growth, and the peace that only Christ can give.
